Episode 11: Unlocking Inspiration at Work – 5 Energizing Tips

As busy women with goals and deadlines, unlocking your inspiration is not always easy – especially when you add in demanding schedules and responsibilities. Sure we can grab a coffee or meet up with friends, which can bring us slivers of joy, but how do you shift to a higher level of energy or inspiration? In this week’s Career Strategies for Women That Work episode, I’m sharing five techniques to help you find inspiration and joy. With years of exploring, I share some of the shifts I have made over the last few years to energetically inspire myself into a higher energy band (aka frequency).  Even with a busy schedule, It is possible to find more fulfillment and joy each day.

This is the eleventh episode is very much align with numbers!  Especially 1s, which is why I’m excited about sharing this topic this week! (By the way, The Willow Soul shared a fun article on why we see a series of 1s, you can check it out here: 5 Reasons Why You Are Seeing 11:11

That being said, I think Episode 11 is a great place to talk about unlocking your inspirations! To keep things simple and manageable, I’m going to focus on five ways to inspire your work energetically. These are some things I’ve been incorporating into my day, and I’ve honed it in over the last four to five years.

You might’ve seen on my Instagram (@jjdigeronimo) that I just got back from an amazing Embody Your Sacred Self retreat in Mount Shasta. (You can listen to Episode 7: Solo Trips – Creating Space for You to find out why taking these trips is so essential to your career and wellbeing.) And, while there, I was inspired by the agenda that Michelle and Emerald created. I was also nervous and excited to meet other women that were being “called” to this retreat, too. It was such a freeing and fulfilling weekend; if you want to connect with your higher self, I would recommend looking into their fall Embody Your Sacred Self retreat, Oct. 8-11, 2021.

The retreat weekend provided me with so much inspiration– so I want to get into this by starting with a question: how do you inspire yourself?

A few other questions to keep in mind as you listen to the episode:

  • How am I feeling right now?
  • What kind of thoughts are going through my mind right now?
  • How was my day?
  • What is pulling me in right now?
  • Where do I need to take a closer look?

4:20  When we’re working so hard all the time, we tend to spend a ton of time in our heads, and sometimes we forget that we’re part of something a lot larger than just us. For me, it is about getting out of my head to remind myself that, yes, there’s something so much bigger happening around me and I need to be more present more often.

What are the thoughts that are holding you back? Do you have an inner critic that drowns out any inspiration? If you’ve listened to Episode 9: Sidestepping Self Doubt, then you know that your thoughts can limit your actions. Do you have an inner critic inside that’s challenging you to step out in new ways or find ways to center our soul?

I think for many of us, our thoughts can be so impactful that it deters us from what is possible. The way around this is to do a self-assessment and make sure that you give yourself space to create, to seek, and to just see what is possible. So step one of five ways to energetically inspire your work is to take inventory of your thoughts.

6:25  What type of exchanges do you have with people in your life, both at work and outside of work? Are you somebody that leads with a smile? Do you seek to understand before being understood? Are you somebody that appreciates interactions you have with other people?

In my book, The Working Woman’s GPS, When the Plan to Have it ALL Leads you Astray, there is a popular chapter titled ‘Are You A Practicing Polluter?’ Below, I shared a chart I created to help me track how I interacted with individuals throughout my day, which I put into practice about 11 years ago. After using it for a while, I realized that, when I was in not so great of mental space, I was also swimming in a mud puddle of negative energy of self-destructive and negativity.

Here’s the chart:

Destructive, unkind, and negativeUplifting, supportive, and positive

Many spiritual practitioners say you can only live in one side or the other but not on both sides of the chart. What I’ve learned over the years is that you have to choose what SIDE OF THE CHART YOU WANT TO LIVE WITHIN!

In addition to how you think about your goals and what you want to achieve, what type of exchanges are you having? Whether you say them out loud or not, are you leaning more towards loving and kindness or anger and frustration?

9:20  It wasn’t until I made an active effort to shift from one column to the other, that the energy in my life shifted as well. How do you attract the frequency or inspiration you desire? You often have to start with where you are now in your life based on your thoughts and exchanges!

11:10  Where are your thoughts, most of the time?

  • What are your exchanges with the people that you encounter each day?
  • Where do you spend your time?
  • Are you spending your time on things that do not excite you or things that inspire you?

If you remember back to Episode 2: Aligning Your Yeses, not only do I have a great four-page worksheet, but I focus on how and where to align your yeses to create the energy you need to make your next level of impact. It is essential to think about what you’re saying yes to and assess if it is elevating you to where you want to be or landing you in that mud puddle.

12:45  Noticing your thoughts means you have to be present. You have to be in the moment you’re currently in – not focusing on the past or future – which is very difficult to do. This took me years of mindfulness practice to get out of my head, which was often focusing on where I was or where I was going.

13:01  I’ve recently joined The Receiving Experiment created by Michelle Wong . It’s a 21-day challenge that encourages you to pay attention to what you’re receiving each day – whether that’s a penny on the ground, a compliment, or that you’re able to get your bills paid. Being aware of what is coming to you, how you receive energy, and how you receive the gifts presented to you on a daily basis is an important part of the experiment and mindfulness.

13:50 I’ve learned to ask myself these three questions to help me understand the things that have helped me elevate my energy:

  • How am I interacting with people?
  • Where am I spending my time?
  • What am I noticing?

These things have helped me elevate the energy and the exchanges I have with other people.

Often we need to turn our light on or turn our light up – and the way to do that is through the steps I shared today. This includes turning your light up, focusing on the positive, being excited about what’s on your schedule, appreciating the people you meet and encounter each day, and then being aware of how all of this fits together. I guarantee that you’ll be able to notice the unique things that happen every day and the usual things that happen too.

15:02  An easy way to start noticing your thoughts and energy is to keep a journal of your day; this journal can be on your phone, you can do it on your way to work or on the way home or before you go to bed, or even at lunch – you just need to take a few minutes and reflect on what’s happened to you during the day. Creating awareness and a focus and being in the present moment is a great place to start!

15:39  For inspiration, you need to create alignment for where you are and where you want to go. Feel the energy of excitement, possibilities, connection, and awareness for where you are and where you want to make an impact on, creating the momentum for the level of impact you desire.

It has taken me some time to get to this point, and honestly, it evolves every four to six years. My evolution has happened by learning as I seek information to create more awareness of who I am and what I have to offer the world.

16:59  This is where I’m most excited. I’ve been actively practicing so many different energy practices over the last 48 months. And some have been instrumental in understanding who I am, how I tick, and where I can make the most significant impact in the world.

With this next episode, I’m going to be sharing at least three non-traditional career tools that have given me the clarity of who I am and where I can make my mark in the world.

It has been an eye-opener for me to understand what type of work aligns with my natural skills. They have helped me transform where I’m going as a business leader. With this, I can assist and empower even more professionals women.

Join me next episode, where I’m going to talk about tools such as Enneagram, Human Design, and Birth Charts to expand on what you know about yourself and what is possible. It’s going to be great!
