“Computing is too important to be left to men,:” is a humorous quote offered to us by Karen Spärck Jones, Professor of Computers and Information at Cambridge Computer Laboratory. Spärck Jones was a vocal advocate for women in computing and technology; she introduced the concept of inverse document frequency (IDF) used by most search engines today.
If you are a woman in the technology field, you know how few of us there are and yet we bring as much if not more to the table.
If you are not familiar, I wanted to make you aware of Tech Savvy Women, a group I started in 2008 that has now expanded globally.
Tech Savvy Women is an organization that brings Technology focused Women across various industries and disciplines together to create and foster relationships while enhancing their knowledge of technology.
We have branched out to in-person groups that meet periodically to network and share ideas. As technology invades every aspect of our life, regardless of your particular area of interest, a strong knowledge of technology will help you become more successful.
I encourage you to reach out to other women in the technical world to learn more about how technology is providing exciting opportunities for women. At the very least, visit us on LinkedIn and join in the discussions. Search in Groups for Tech Savvy Women (TSW) and join – it is an open group with more than 2,5000 women from all walks of life.
