I had the pleasure of interviewing Kathy Batista, a renowned mindset and midlife coach. We dove deep into the heart of midlife, exploring why so many women feel a yearning for more during this phase of life.
Kathy bravely shared her personal struggles during midlife, a time when she felt irritable, unhappy, and frustrated without understanding why. She resorted to unhealthy coping mechanisms like drinking, overeating, and excessive shopping. Kathy reached a point where she was sick and tired of feeling this way and decided to seek help.
In my new book SEEKING, 74 Key Findings to Raise Your Energy, Sidestep Your Self-Doubts, and Align with Your Life’s Work, I’ve written about this very topic, echoing Kathy’s sentiments. I’ve observed that many women in midlife feel alone, misunderstood, and misaligned, especially as their bodies start to change and they experience various life events. Kathy added that during the first 40 years of life, people celebrate these changes, but as we age, the narrative shifts.
We dove into some of these key midlife points:
The Midlife Question: Kathy and I discussed the common question many women ask themselves in midlife: “Is there more to life?” We both agreed that this is a pivotal moment when women start questioning their roles and seeking more fulfillment and growth.
Feeling Misunderstood: I shared my perspective on how many women in midlife often feel alone, misunderstood, and misaligned. It’s a time of significant change, and feeling out of sync with the world around you is not uncommon.
Kathy’s Personal Journey: Kathy opened up about her own midlife struggles, from feeling irritable and unhappy to turning to unhealthy coping mechanisms. Her journey to self-discovery and personal growth is truly inspiring.
The Three-Pillar Approach: Kathy shared her unique approach to coaching, focusing on mood, mindset, and mindfulness. This holistic method aims to regulate the nervous system, cultivate intuition, and work on thought coaching.
The Power of Mindfulness: We discussed the importance of being present and mindful, noticing synchronicities and opportunities that often go unnoticed in our busy lives.
Kathy has kindly offered a quiz on her website to help you determine your own midlife mindset. I encourage you to check it out!
I hope our conversation sparks your curiosity and encourages you to explore your own midlife journey. Remember, it’s never too late to pursue your passions and create the life you desire.
